Sue (Starkovic) Armstrong ’60, age 79, died January 9, 2022.

Eva Chase, age 93 of Albuquerque, died Dec. 13, 2021. She is survived by her husband Frank Chase; three sons Steven (Beth), Brian (Vicki), and David; seven grandchildren including Christopher Chase ’04 and Mattia Espinosa ‘11; and three great-grandchildren.

Father Albert Gaelens, CSB, age 89 of Houston, died Dec. 23, 2021. He was a member of the Congregation of Priests of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers) for 70 years and a priest for 61 years. Father Gaelens was principal of St. Pius X High School in the late 90s. He is survived by his niece, Lori Gaelens, and nephew Roger Gaelens (Carol).

Rene Marie Hanosh, age 97 of Albuquerque, died Feb. 28, 2022. She is survived by her four children, Carol Brown ’64, Don Hanosh (Terri), Denise Vandam ’71 (Rick ’69), Paula Koller ’73 (Mike); and her brother, Marvin Gannam (Janet); 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Richard John Heaphy ’66, age 73 of Albuquerque, died on Dec. 5, 2021. Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Sullivan Heaphy, his father John James Heaphy, and his sister, Mary Heaphy Gonce ’76. He is survived by his siblings Michael J. Heaphy ‘69, Joseph G. Heaphy ’71, Stephen Heaphy ’74, and John C. Heaphy ’79.

Julia Anne Kelly of Albuquerque died Dec. 19, 2021. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Brian Kelly ’79, daughter Camille Kelly, son-in-law Brian Griffith, sister Jennifer Gray, brothers-in-law Daniel Kelly ’60, Robert Kelly ’70, Michael Kelly ’74, Patrick Kelly ’76, Matthew Kelly ’86, and sister-in-law Jane Kelly ’73.

Danielle C. Marquez ‘92, age 48 of Albuquerque, died Jan. 9, 2022. She is survived by parents, Elizabeth and Albert Montano; siblings, Brandi Channon, Pauline Becerra (Steve), Renee Phillips (Fred), Albert J. Montano, Bridget Tapia, Leslie Pollaro (Greg); and grandfather Manuel “Magoo” Marquez.

Fr. Thomas J. Mescall, age 74 of Albuquerque, died Feb. 1, 2022. He is survived by his son, Thomas J. Mescall II Esq. ’92; daughter, the Honorable Regina Ann Mescall ’95 (Peter Kramer) and four grandchildren. 

Dennis Peckinpaugh, age 78 of Albuquerque, died Feb. 18, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lynne Franchini Peckinpaugh ’64; daughter, Michele Peckinpaugh ’88; son, David Peckinpaugh ’91 (Maureen Tansey); and two grandchildren. 

Raul (Ruly) Portillo, age 92 of Albuquerque, died March 3, 2022. He is survived by his wife Enriqueta (Keta) Rodarte; children: Charlotte, Raoul ’77, Martin ’80 and Gabriel ’82, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

David R. Roybal, age 76 of Albuquerque, died Jan. 8, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diana Roybal; son Randall Roybal ’84 (Jeff Reynolds); daughter Amy Borchers (Bill); and his two granddaughters.

Joseph “Joe” Smith, age 88 of Albuquerque, died Jan. 8, 2022. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah “Debi” Bartucci ’79 (Pat), stepdaughter Kellie Rodriguez, step-granddaughter Peyton Williams, daughter Deanna “Dedi” Smith ’86 and her children Zane Van Winkle ’15 and Grant Van Winkle ’18.

Suzanne Daut White ’73, died Jan. 8, 2022. Her sisters are Nancy Kerr ’71 and Kathleen Daut Crawford ’73.
