Monica Chavez Apodaca ’93, age 47 of Albuquerque, died May 9, 2022. She is survived by her parents Jerry and Carmen Chavez, husband Arthur Apodaca, and children: Crucito Apodaca, Diego Apodaca and Luciana Apodaca. Monica passed away after battling injuries suffered due to a car accident in late October 2020.

Michael Ferguson Balleau ’02, known by family and friends as “Mick,” age 35 of Guadalajara, Mexico, died of a heart attack on Dec. 8, 2019. He is survived by his father William Peter Balleau, sister Kathrine Marie, nephew Aiden Henry and faithful brother William Charles.

Cecelia Theresa D’Amour, age 90 of Albuquerque, passed away on May 8, 2022.
Cecelia is survived by her children: Louise Turner ’71, Greg D’Amour (Melanie), Ralph D’Amour (June), Ron D’Amour (Katrina); 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

George Drebing, age 94 of Albuquerque, died March 25, 2022, after a long and valiant fight with Parkinson’s. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carmen; his son, Mark ’80 (Stephanie) and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Stagnone ’78; and son, John Drebing ’81.

Laura Patricia (Lucero) Garcia of Albuquerque died May 13, 2022. She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Garcia Sr.; her four children, Richard W. Garcia II (Loyann), Mark Anthony Garcia, Patrick Garcia (Pamela), and Lauralynn Garcia, 14 grandchildren including Richard III ’15, Noel ’18, Alec ’21, Trevor ’18, Logan ’20; and one great-grandchild.

Joseph Heaphy ’71 died April 4, 2022. His siblings are Stephen Heaphy ’74, Michael J. Heaphy ’69, Richard Heaphy ’66, John C. Heaphy ’79 and Mary Gonce ’76.

Mary Josephine Byrnes Herman of Albuquerque died March 5, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Milton J. Herman, Jr., her daughters Cathy Herman Harrel ’80 (John), and Michelle ‘82, and five grandchildren.

Janet Irene Lederle, age of 94 of Albuquerque, died April 4, 2022. She is survived by her brother Tom McGanney; her children Mike, Tim ’75, Jeff ’77, Carol (Coleman) ’79, Susan ’85, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frank B. Menapace Jr ’64, age 75, and Rosetta M. Menapace, age 74, of Albuquerque died Feb. 3, 2022, in their home after a short illness. Frank and Rosetta’s survivors include their son Brian Menapace (Guy), daughter Jenna K Menapace, two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and Frank’s sister, Diane Menapace ‘67.

Professor Michael A. Olivas ’68 of Santa Fe died April 22, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 38 years,  Dr. Augustina Reyes, his mother Clara A. Olivas, his great aunt Rose Harris, and eight of his nine siblings Phillip Olivas, Richard Olivas (Marian), Sean Olivas, Kathleen Olivas Bouloy ’76 (Greg), Lisa Olivas Etherington ’82 (Tim), Tim Arehart, Rose Hammer, and Alex Olivas.

Katherine Otoski age 73 of Riverside, Ohio, died Feb. 25, 2022, after a brave 15-month battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Otoski ’61; her children Jim (Angela) Otoski, Jason (Jennifer) Otoski, Krista (Eric) Froehlich and Kerry (Fred) Kaiser; and eight grandchildren.

Raul (Ruly) Portillo, age 93 of Albuquerque, died March 3, 2022. He is survived by his wife Enriqueta (Keta) Rodarte; children Charlotte, Raoul ’77, Martin ’80, and Gabriel ’82; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Marianne Rodriguez ’73 died April 18, 2022. Her sister is Laura Weart ’70.

John Lewis Tischhauser, Jr. (Jack), age 94, died March 1, 2022. His son is Dr. John Tischhauser, III ’67.

Marie Cheshire Whelan, age 93 of Albuquerque, died May 8, 2022. She is survived by her husband Peter Whelan; children, Sue, Cathy ’69 (Tom), Dean ’71 (Linda), Rick ’74, Tim ’75, Terri ’77 (Steve), Greg ’80, Jacky ’82 (Chuck), and Stan ’83 (Lisa); 23 grandchildren including Cory ’03 (Amanda), Chase ’04 (Elena), Chad ’07 (Liz), Chelsey ’09, Alex ’09, Sydney ’17, Caitlin ’08, Taylor ’10; and 19 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Cheshire; her parents, Stefano, and Caterina Barbieri; her two brothers, Dino, and Albert; and two of her ten children, Steve ’68, and Daniel.
