Alumni Notes - Fall 2021

1970s

John Cordova ’76 was recently featured in the Sports Business Journal, recounting his 38 years in sports marketing, the last 27 as Coca-Cola’s top sports deal maker. Cordova started his class endowment with the St. Pius X High School Foundation in 2014 the  “Spirit of ’76/John Cordova Endowment.”

Father Ed Roden-Lucero, D.Min., JCL, ’73, spent 39 years serving in the Diocese of El Paso. He has returned to Albuquerque and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in order to live near his family once again. He is now serving as the Parochial Vicar at Immaculate Conception Parish and is also assigned to the Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese. At the time of his departure from El Paso during summer 2021, the El Paso County Commissioners Court approved a special Resolution in his honor, in recognition of his efforts to improve the plight of the poor in the Border region.  Read an article about his work on social issues. 

2020s

St. Pius X alumni baseball players Evan Muhlberger ’21Joshua Salas ’21 and Matthew Cornelius ‘21 continued their successful senior season as part of the Albuquerque Baseball Academy and an appearance in the Connie Mack World Series in July 2021. The club won the Continental Amateur Baseball Association Wood Bat World Series and with that title advanced to the American Amateur Baseball Congress Connie Mack World Series in Farmington. It was the first time a New Mexico team has earned a berth into the Connie Mack World Series. Farmington, as the host, has a team in the tournament annually, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Alumni Soccer Games

The Annual St. Pius X Alumni Soccer games were held in August. The Lady Sartans beat the Alumni team 4-2. The Alumni won in the men’s game 2-1.
