Herrera ’99, Highland High School Coach Nick Madrid ’07, and Sandia High School Coach Ryan Sanchez ’10. Sanchez’s Matadors earned the 5A Runner-Up trophy, Madrid’s Hornets advanced to the 4A semifinal, and Herrera’s Sartans made it to the 4A quarterfinal. SPX Girls Soccer, led by David Sullivan Jr .’02, took home the red 4A State Runner-Up trophy this year. Are there other Sartans coaching soccer in New Mexico? Let us know!

2010s

NM State men’s golfer Aidan Thomas ’19 was named WAC Men’s Golfer of the Week in late September 2021. His win at the prestigious William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship Course preceded the honor. Thomas had at least a share of the lead during all three rounds of the tournament, and joins the likes of former Aggie great Crick Musch and 15-time major champion Tiger Woods. Both Woods and Musch won the William H. Tucker during their college careers. Thomas was the first Aggie since Ryo Harada in 2017 to win an individual outright title.
