St. Pius X Sports - Spring 2021
As St. Pius X High School entered a hybrid schedule, the doors opened for all sports to begin abbreviated seasons that began with the fall sports of football, soccer and volleyball in March.
The New Mexico Art Education Association (NMAEA), in conjunction with the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, awarded 11 St. Pius X High School visual arts students with 16 New Mexico Scholastic Art Awards in the 2021 juried competition.
Isabel Roddy earned the Gold Key Award, the competition’s top award category. Awarded the Silver Key Award were Joshua Brown, Angelina Martinez and Elizabeth Rivera. Earning Honorable Mention Awards were Maria Allocca, Katrina Barela, Marie Kalb, Nick Marinez (two pieces earning awards), Maddy Morrow (two awards), Sierra Sanchez and Allyson Thomas (two awards).

The awards program is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. More than 185,000 works of art and writing are annually submitted in numerous categories by teens in grades 7-12 nationwide. Each year more than 1,500 receive national awards and are celebrated on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The St. Pius X Sartans chose Geneva Sandoval Dinallo and Zachary Neel as the 2020-2021 Homecoming Queen and King. A drive by parade and coronation was held in the school parking lot, where the rest of the Homecoming Court was also announced: First Princess and Prince Felize Sanchez and Matthew Cornelius and Second Princess and Prince Katrina Kelley and Lukus Lucero.

With the support of the Albuquerque community and champions like Gateway Insurance and Financial Services, the St. Pius X High School Foundation opens doors to a Catholic, college-preparatory education to students throughout the metro area.
