SPX Athletes Find Opportunity in 2020

Sartan Athletes Commit on National Signing Day

St. Pius X High School senior student athletes made their commitments to play college sports on National Signing Day this fall. In women’s soccer, goalkeeper Alicia Barela committed to Lubbock Christian UniversityIn men’s soccer, striker Marcus Garcia committed to the University of Maryland and defender Zach Pena committed to the University of Tulsa. In baseball, Evan Muhlberger committed to New Mexico Junior College.

Varsity Cheerleaders Named All-Americans

Six SPX Varsity Cheerleaders made the 2020 Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American team. An award that is normally given at Summer Camp was done online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Selected amongst thousands of other candidates were seniors Cierra Sandoval and Hailey Kiehne, juniors Chloe Montoya, Samantha Fresquez, and Teresa Apodaca, and sophomore Trinity Archuleta. These girls continue to stay positive and do whatever it takes to make the most of their season.

Mitchem: Maximizing the Potential of Kids

For Dr. James Mitchem ’75, developing an education system in which students who are deemed at-risk are positioned for post education success has been his life’s work. He states it comes down to what we truly believe about all kids.

Around Campus – Winter 2020

Although St. Pius X High School students are not on campus for the fall 2020 semester and are meeting in virtual classrooms due to the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, they continue to excel in academics, service and fine arts.

For St. Pius X High School Foundation Board Member Ron Hensley and his wife Cindy, commitment to Catholic education and to St. Pius X began well before their three children entered high school. Their love of the school community was solidified during their oldest son’s senior year.
