Welcome to
St. Pius X Connections magazine

Dear Friends,

We at St. Pius X High School wish you the very best this Advent and Christmas season.

In this issue of St. Pius X Connections, learn about Fr. Jordan Sanchez ’11 and his journey to the priesthood. We also catch up with Arial DeHerrera ’14 and NewSpace New Mexico, along with retired art professor Peter O’Boyle ’61.

We hope you’ll join us for the St. Pius X High School Foundation Mardi Gras Gala on February 26. Mark your calendars now!

We continue to wish you peace and health for the coming months. St. Pius X, pray for us.

Sincerely,

Barbara M. Rothweiler, PhD

Principal

“Listen to the little tugs on your heart, the good desires of your heart, and don’t be afraid to follow them,” advises Fr. Jordan Sanchez ’11. “Also, you have seen how greatly I attribute the environment I was in to hearing God’s voice. If you’re putting yourself in an environment not conducive to that, don’t expect to have clarity.”

“We want to ignite and unite the space industry from New Mexico for the nation,” says Arial DeHerrera ’14 of NewSpace New Mexico. “We want to be the front door for the space industry to take advantage of all of the rich assets, resources and people we have ready to support the ecosystem in growing faster and better.”

“Whether the artist thinks so or not, there is divine influence — God influences the art whether we want to accept it or not,” says Peter O’Boyle ’61. “I believe in a personal God around me and in me all the time. I say our regular prayers, but I also pray my own prayers as I go about my day. God can’t not influence what I’m doing.”

Albuquerque’s 2021 mayoral candidates Eddy Aragon ’93, Manuel Gonzales and Tim Keller ’96 each had ties to St. Pius X High School. Incumbent Mayor Keller and Aragon are alumni and Gonzales’ three children are recent SPX graduates — Manuel Gonzales ’18, Sophia Gonzales ’19 and Isaiah Gonzales ’21With such a Sartan-centric slate of candidates, St. Pius X track coach Jeff Turcotte decided to host the city’s first “Mayoral Punt, Pass & Kick” competition.

“We are so happy to be able to come together again to celebrate St. Pius X High School,” said Jean Marie Skipp ’87, SPX Associate Director of Advancement and Alumni. “This night of elegance and entertainment is a great opportunity to gather a table of St. Pius alumni or St. Pius parents for a night of friendship and fun. And it all benefits the St. Pius X High School Foundation and its support of students.”
